Sarah Hengeveld’s exceptional sales abilities are evident throughout her career. She doesn’t just hit her targets – she goes above and beyond them, winning her company’s President’s Club award two years in a row for over-achieving.

At only 25 she was promoted to Enterprise Sales Manager, managing a team of 13. Just two years later she was headhunted to be the commercial director of a start-up, Commerce Futures. Under her steady hand, the new company went from a complete standing start to turning over a staggering half a million in just under 18 months.

Sarah’s career in sales has been fast-paced and extremely successful from the start. With a strong dose of sales acumen and an affinity for management up her sleeve she started her sales career at PEER 1 Hosting in 2010.

She excelled within the company and within just four years advanced from business development consultant through a variety of roles, culminating in the huge responsibility of ensuring the growth of the company, managing a team as well as creating and implementing strategies to approach new markets.

It was at this point she moved into start-up Commerce Futures, where she was headhunted for a Commercial Director role at 27 years old. The results of her hard work were outstanding and lead the small company to unprecedented growth.

She reflects on her instrumental role in the success of Commerce Futures as one of the proudest moments in her career: "It was very rewarding, supporting the setup of a start-up business and seeing it overachieve its goals two-fold in year one.”

Now District Sales Manager at IT service management company Proact, Sarah’s career is already sprinkled with successes at just 29 years old. When it comes to identifying what she loves most about sales, Sarah says it’s a whole medley of different elements that make her passionate about what she does.

“I love the diversity of sales,” she enthuses. “The losses make the wins so much more worth it, but most of all I love it when a well-thought-out plan comes together.”

Sarah talks enthusiastically about every element of her job, but developing graduates and those in her team remains one of her passion projects. One of her proudest moments included seeing a member of the first team she ever managed get a promotion. Her commitment to developing others is something she’s worked on throughout her career. When working for PEER 1 as a Sales Manager, Sarah pioneered a training program specifically designed for new starters that helped to develop many graduates.

As part of her current role as District Sales Manager at Proact, she highlights the benefits of training her employees and taking on new graduates. At the moment, she’s responsible for seven Account Managers who support a variety of public sector organisations with their IT requirements. Sarah is committed to training and developing her team, as well as providing them with the best tools available to do their job.

She says Pareto Law has affected the value she places on graduates in her company: “They taught me the importance of developing a graduate team and what that can mean for the success of a business like Proact.”

As a graduate herself in 2010, Sarah held a degree in modern foreign languages. Interested in pursuing a career in sales, Sarah signed up to attend a Pareto assessment day. After being selected as one of the top 20% of candidates, she was thrilled to work with Pareto Law when she recognised the opportunities they offered. “I chose to continue in the process because I was impressed with the organisations they placed graduates into,” she says

Sarah was placed into PEER 1 Hosting by Pareto in August 2010. Although she’s sure she would have ended up in a similar occupation, she acknowledges Pareto’s role in finding the right fit between employer and employee and how important that was in affecting her career: “I know I would not have had such an accelerated career without that successful placement at PEER 1.”
