A new electrified rail link with north Wales may help those living in the Merseyside area to get graduate jobs. The Welsh assembly has confirmed its financial support for the electrification of a rail line between Deeside and the Wirral peninsula, which will halve journey times, the Liverpool Daily Post reports. Manufacturing, computing and engineering jobs in north Wales would then be more accessible to commuters living in Merseyside, the paper adds. Stuart Kelly, a councillor in Wirral, told the paper: "Electrification of the line would mean people from Wirral could commute to north Wales and improve their employment prospects." Mr Kelly added that the council will press for more stations to be added to the line to increase access for commuters. Earlier this month the quarterly Manpower Employment Outlook Survey found that four per cent more employers expected to increase their staffing levels than cut them in the first quarter of 2008, the Liverpool Echo reported.
