Accountants 'breaking into food sector'

Accountants 'breaking into food sector' An increasing number of newly-qualified accountants are finding work in the consumer goods sector, it has been claimed.

Karen Young, regional director of Hays Senior Finance in Essex and East Anglia, states that the growing demand for food and drink products in the UK is fuelling this growth.

"In Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk there are a large number of companies operating in this sector, with a mix of both SME (small and medium-sized enterprises) and corporate companies," she said.

She added that such a development has led to an increase in the number of newly-qualified accountants seeking employment in the sector.

Elsewhere, it was recently reported that graduates with a physics background are finding employment in some relatively unusual sectors.

Writing for Nature.com, Bill Wakeham, chairman of the Research Council UK's review of the subject, explained that physics graduates can now be found in areas such as IT, transport, construction, aerospace and transport.
