Average advertised salary rises

The average advertised British salary rose by £300 to £31,672 over the last six months, according to a new salary index.

A study by AllTheTopBananas.com discovered that London retains the title of the area with the highest average advertised salary at £38,169.

The east Midlands came lowest in the table, with an average advertised salary of £25,516.

It found that Wales boasted the second highest advertised salary, with an average of £30,277.

Dave Martin, managing director of the website, said the index did not take into account important variables such as experience or industry but could show the salary expectations of an area.

According to graduate job hunting guide Prospects the average graduate starting salary is £23,034 for those who finished their studies in 2007.

The Higher Education Statistics Agency recently reported that among those who graduated three years ago, 74 per cent are in full-time paid employment.
