Challenge 'crucial for graduate retention'

Challenge 'crucial for graduate retention' Graduates who do not feel they are being sufficiently challenged in their job will readily change employer, according to a new research.

A new study conducted by TalentDrain indicated that there is a new generation of graduates which are more than willing to look elsewhere if they are not getting enough from a job.

Ron Eldridge, director of the company, told Consultant News: "Graduates want challenge and advancement and they'll vote with their feet if their organisation can't deliver."

He added that companies who are not aware of such requirement risk losing their top talent to rival businesses.

According to the Guardian, the government wants to ensure university leavers graduate with good 'soft skills', which can be highly beneficial when they come to enter the workplace.

The news provider noted that one way such skills can be accrued is through work experience.

Paul Drew, marketing manager, at Pareto commented: "at Pareto we see every day the challenges that graduates and employers face.  That's why we provide full training to ensure that the graduates get the soft skills and are introduced to the techniques to be a success.  We even provide graduates and clients coaching and mentoring services to allow each graduate placed to get help and advice on subjects based around their work from our experienced team of graduate managers.  Employers must provide graduates withe skills to achieve success they may have the academic and personal skills but they must learn commercial skills to fast track themselves into a successful career path."
