Confidence 'key' for interview success

Graduates and other job-seekers are advised that candidates who radiate confidence in interviews are more likely to be hired.

Matt Caulfield, an expert in neuro linguistic programming (NLP), recommends that those seeking new positions make sure they have primed themselves before going into an interview.

"An NLP programme can help to make the difference between an acceptable candidate and an exceptional one," he said, according to onrec.com.

"To perform at their very best an individual must be well prepared mentally and have the right attitude - and that confidence will help them perform better when they get the job."

Gill Rider, director-general of leadership and people at the Cabinet Office, recently told the Times that if employees approach what they do with confidence, there is a better chance they will be perceived as competent.

She added that "skills alone" are sometimes not enough to ensure career progression and recommended that people project self-assurance.
