Despite a fall in wage growth across the UK, the demand for skilled workers remains high, it has been claimed. Helen Reynolds, chief executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), was responding to the findings of a new survey from the REC and KPMG. The index revealed a fall in demand for staff, from a seven-year high of 64 which was seen in July, to 60.1 in August. However, Ms Reynolds told Thompson Financial that continuing expansion within UK businesses was demonstrated by any score above 50. "The high demand for staff remains strong across many sectors and global demand for skilled workers is intensifying," she remarked. Wage growth was also revealed have slowed during August, from a nine-year high in July. Employment vacancies in the UK rose during the second quarter of the year, according to data from the Office for National Statistics.
