Organisations and managers should be more proactive about developing specific diversity policies, according to the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). A clear message about diversity can help a company's performance, productivity and recruitment, CMI claimed. CMI director of marketing and corporate affairs Jo Causon said that one of the main reasons firms are not proactive with diversity policies is because they are not aware of potential benefits. "Organisations should ensure that diversity policies are clear and well communicated to their staff or risk losing out on the performance gains it can generate," she said. Recommendations for encouraging diversity include making sure there is top-level support, identifying where change is needed and monitoring improvement. Diversity could also be worked into training and development, giving staff a forum to discuss such issues, the organisation added. In related news, a recent survey from YouGov found that firms could help attract candidates by offering a benefits package which explains its terms clearly.
