Employers need skilled workers

Graduates hoping to get jobs after university are being urged to ensure they obtain the skills they need to get into the career they want.

A recent survey shows that businesses are increasingly struggling to recruit employees with the necessary talents. Employers across the country often turn to the internet to advertise their posts but some applicants are not capable of doing the job correctly.

Graduates across the country who want to work in sales are now being advised to swat up and ensure that they have the necessary skills set to impress a potential boss.

Figures released by the British Chamber of Commerce (BCC) show that more than half of today's businesses find it harder than five years ago to recruit employees with the skills they need.

Director general of the BCC David Frost said: "The current education and vocational training system is failing to provide workers with the skills that business need.

"If this is not effectively addressed UK business will be seriously disadvantaged."

The lack of skills held by applicants has left many employers turning to graduates when it comes to hiring staff, who have often acquired skills through three years of study.
