Employers should think carefully about using online recruitment services to find staff after a poll revealed that many were throwing money away by not advertising jobs correctly. A recent report shows that thousands of pounds are being splashed on recruitment by company bosses but few were measuring the return on their investment. According to the study published in Personnel Today, out of 557 businesses asked less than half bother to evaluate the success of individual recruitment processes. More and more businesses are now turning online to recruit applicants, particularly graduates, as this is becoming one of the most cost efficient ways to hire staff. According to the report, 84 per cent of firms plan to increase the amount they spend on recruitment over the next six months. Emma Parry, research fellow at Cranfield School of Management, which devised the figures, told Personnel Today: "These results paint a worrying picture of organisations throwing money at recruitment without any idea if they are receiving a suitable return on their investment. "This suggests that when recruitment is unsuccessful, recruiters just spend more and more on the same processes, rather than systematically assessing the success, or failure, of the methods they are using and making changes accordingly."
