Despite some turbulent economic conditions, the UK employment outlook for 2008 is positive, according to one expert. Brendan Barber, general secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), said that people should not assume that the country's financial situation is overly bleak, which could be good news for those seeking a graduate job. "Employment remains at record levels and businesses say they are optimistic for the year ahead," he said in a new year address. Lower interest rates are likely to further improve the employment outlook for graduates and other jobseekers, he added. Any turmoil will probably hit the financial sector the hardest and these troubles should not be confused with "the economic fundamentals" of the economy as a whole, Mr Barber said. The TUC recently suggested that UK workers should receive more bank holidays.
