Finding the right job 'crucial'

Female employees are more likely to experience excessive worries and fear in the workplace, new research shows.

In a study compiled by Kingston University's School of HR management, it was found that male workers are likely to enjoy a more serene relationship with their working environment.

While nearly a third of women claimed they had experienced forms of bullying or harrassment in the workplace, just a fifth of men were found to have felt the same actions from other employees.

Despite the report, Working Life: Employee Attitudes and Engagement Reports, demonstrating that women were more likely to be more satisfied with their roles than men, anxiety-prone employees might be well advised to utilise all recruitment avenues possible, including online recruitment sites, to find the role best suited to their skills.

Citing reasons for the possible causes of anxiety, Dr Emma Soane, who was involved in the compilation of the survey with Mori, suggested that women were more likely to be attached to their jobs, a contributing factor to the satisfaction with their jobs.

"Women are more likely than men to be caring for children or other family members, and the pressure of juggling multiple roles could be the reason why they worry more in the workplace," Ms Soane gave as another reason.
