Workers that are given technological devices such as BlackBerrys and mobile phones as part of their job are putting in an extra 20 hours per year, according to new research. The study was undertaken by secretarial and office support recruitment consultancy Office Angels has revealed that 40 per cent of respondents were glad to receive the technology, despite the fact that they are essentially giving back holiday entitlement. Some 41 per cent stated that such devices ensured they made the most of their time spent at work, which may interest graduates considering flexible working. Additionally, one in seven viewed BlackBerrys as a stress reducing device. Commenting on the issue, David Clubb, managing director of Office Angels, said: "It's important that you maintain a work/life balance and keep work in perspective. "Occasionally we all need to work outside of normal hours, but this should really be the exception not the rule. Be disciplined about whether you really need to log-on."
