Graduates who can add a foreign language to their CV are likely to stand out in the jobs market, it has been claimed. Angela Baron, an advisor at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), said that a second language would boost a graduate’s career chances, despite English still being the language of business in much of Europe. "If you're going to go and work in a global organisation then clearly language skills are going to be quite useful - particularly if there's going to be the opportunity for postings to different parts of the world," she explained. She added that languages will be crucial to a business which is negotiating deals with different parts of the world, and a person on the team who can speak the tongue "will be a bonus for them". According to the group, Arabic and Asian languages are a good choice for graduates looking to secure the top jobs. The CIPD is a professional body with more than 130,000 individual members.
