The young contingent of the workforce known as Generation Y expect more employment benefits than their older counterparts, new research suggests. According to a study conducted by FreshMinds Talent, professionals aged 26 and under value salary more than corporate social responsibility. Furthermore, university leavers are more likely to look for flexible working patterns, such as homeworking and graduate jobs which will utilise their individual skills. James Callander, managing director of FreshMinds Talent, said there has been much conjecture about how Generation Y differs from earlier generations in terms of their attitudes towards work. He claimed that such research was "critical" if employers were to fully understand the aspirations of this particular age group. A recent study by PricewaterhouseCoopers indicated that many graduates are broadening their job search by looking for employment opportunities that are not directly linked to their degree program.
