Graduates may be able to take advantage of new employment opportunities in nurseries as the government attempts to improve daycare qualification levels, it has emerged. According to Nursery World, the Department for Children, Schools and Families is developing a plan which would see a graduate placed in every early years centre by 2015. The 2020 Children and Young People's Workforce Strategy – which was published last week – gave further indication of such an intention. National Day Nurseries Association chief executive Purnima Tanuku said that her organisation was now looking for confirmation from the government over the issue. "While the Graduate Leader Fund is going some way to address this issue, many nurseries are wondering what they will do if the funding ends," she stated. According to official figures, there are currently around 2,500 graduate-level Early Years Professionals working in the UK, as well as further 2,400 in training.
