University leavers tend to seek employment that will challenge them on a daily basis, according to a new study. The UK Graduate Careers Survey 2008 indicated that other priorities include attaining a professional qualification, contact with customers and the good promotional opportunities. However, the study suggested that graduates placed less priority on the prospect of managing staff and working flexibly, reports the Times. Graduates expect to receive an average salary of around £22,700 a year in their first job, while two-fifths of respondents said the starting wage was as a main priority when considering a vacancy. Some 45 per cent said a company's overall reputation has a direct effect on their employment decision. Elsewhere, the Times recently reported that investment bank Goldman Sachs is one of the best graduate employers in the world.
