Recruiters in Norfolk are missing out on highly qualified employees as they believe graduates will be dissatisfied with the jobs they are offered, according to a new study. Research by regional recruitment service GradsEast has claimed that many businesses are reluctant to offer jobs to university leavers as they believe graduates will be over-qualified to do the work. However, GradsEast has stated that this is not the case and that many employers in Norfolk could be missing out by not offering jobs to the 3,000 graduates who will emerge of out the area's higher education institutions. Anne Benson, chairman of the GradsEast steering group and head of the careers service at the University of East Anglia, told the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press: "Some employers have a view of degree-holders which makes them think that graduates will be over-qualified for, and dissatisfied with, any position they have to offer. "But the fact of the matter is that graduates are hungry for experience and the graduate job market is increasingly competitive." Ms Benson added that the increased diversification of courses available at universities in Norfolk meant that the notion that graduates would not want to work for employers in the area was "nonsense".
