Graduates who have recently left university and are looking for jobs may panic about repaying their student loans, it has been suggested. A spokesperson for HSBC said that graduates may be worried because they have not yet had a chance to "get themselves a good footing as they start their working life". Worries about money are common before employment starts, she said, as graduates are "coming out of their student life" and seeking to make money in a new career. "Some will be in a position to actually start their job – and they'll be then thinking about other financial aspects or having a holiday – if they are more financially prepared," said the spokesperson. Her comments come after a Hay Group study indicated that the average graduate salary had increased to £20,354 this year. Scottish graduates can also anticipate earning more than £20,000 as a starting wage for the first time, the figures revealed.
