With more and more financial pressures placed upon them, graduates are seeking out well-paid jobs to make ends meet, it has been suggested. Salaries were at the top of the list of considerations for 68 per cent of job-seekers who responded to a survey by Reed Employment. In second place was career progression, which was chosen by less than 40 per cent. "These results paint an accurate picture of the current economic climate and job market," commented Janine Parry, head of marketing at the firm. "With house prices at an all-time high, mounting student debt, rising living costs and a very competitive job market, job hunters are under more pressure than ever before to earn a decent wage." She added that more graduates and young people seem to be "shunning" creative jobs in favour of those which offer a heftier paycheck. However, these findings seem to contradict those of another recent study by Ernst & Young, which suggested that graduates are most interested in training opportunities when looking for a job.
