Many graduates are to look for jobs at higher education institutes in 2008, a survey has revealed. Research by jobs.ac.uk found that university, research and science roles were being targeted in 2008 by 82 per cent of students polled. One in ten graduates were more inclined to actively search for job vacancies than wait for the perfect job to land in their inbox via an alert from an internet job agency, noted Andrew Gordon, director of jobs.ac.uk. However, the increasing frequency of specialist recruitment websites mean that highly qualified candidates should also pursue their job hunt online, Mr Gordon suggested. "Employers keen to attract highly qualified candidates should review the recruitment sections of their own websites to show what working life is like there, as well as the job opportunities available," he added. Britain's nationwide recruitment effort may be kick-started in 2008 with government plans to improve the number of apprenticeship schemes available in the private sector as part of a move to boost the skill levels of the nation's workforce.
