IT professionals outside of London are closing the pay gap on those working in the capital, an IT recruitment company has claimed. ReThink Recruitment claims that many firms are now relocating IT departments and their employees, including IT sales and marketing staff, to more provincial areas, resulting in other regions in the UK catching up with London in the wage stakes. The firm has stated that IT expansion in the regions is occurring three times faster than that in London and that this is giving the rest of the UK a real employment boost. Jon Butterfield, from the company, said: "The two-tier market for IT jobs, which mirrored the traditional North-South divide, is fast disappearing. "For the most in-demand IT jobs, pay differences between London and regional hubs like Manchester are negligible." Mr Butterfield added that a skills shortage was also increasing the demand for IT professionals, including sales and marketing, in the regions and that companies are using high wages as incentive to draw employees away from the south-east.
