Jobs market 'in good health'

Jobs market 'in good health' The graduate jobs market is in good health despite the current economic climate, according to official data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

According to the findings, the number of people in employment has risen and there has only been a slight increase in unemployment levels.

The overall out look for graduate job vacancies is also good, even though the number of vacancies currently available has dropped by five per cent.

Gerwyn Davies, public policy adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) comments, "Yet again, the jobs figures continue to defy the woes experienced by the rest of the economy, which will provide some comfort to the Government and reassure the Bank of England that pay rises still pose little threat to inflation."

However, he advised caution about the figures given that they do not include redundancies which have occurred in the last month.

The ONS is governed by the UK Statistics Authority.
