An increasing number of Britons have been choosing to work from home, according to new research. A study by insurance company Zurich found that 30 per cent of full-time employees spent at least some time during the month working from home, Recruiter reports. These flexible workers spent an average of 15.73 hours performing their jobs from home, the figures indicate, while one in ten spent more than 40 hours doing so. Avoiding a lengthy commute was found to be the most popular reason for choosing to work from home, followed by peace from colleagues, freedom regarding working hours and flexibility. In addition, one-third of occasional homeworkers reported that they plan to engage in the practice on a more regular basis during the next 12 months. A recent YouGov survey of UK employees revealed that 71 per cent of respondents claim their companies do not offer flexible working or discourage it.
