Graduates in the IT sector have been given a boost with the news that job opportunities are set to increase by 16 per cent. New research by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) has suggested that the increase in job opportunities will be coupled with an increase in wages, with the average starting salary set to be around £28,000. It has also been found that the top salary for IT graduates was £33,500 last year, with only those employed in the investment banking, legal and consultancy sectors earning more. The AGR's Winter Review has shown that graduate IT vacancies, in areas as diverse as sales and database management, accounted for eight per cent of all graduate posts available in 2006. This figure is set to increase in 2007 as the IT sector booms and looks to consolidate its position as the fifth biggest sector for graduate recruitment. Finishing above IT in the AGR's list of top 20 career sectors were the accountancy, banking and finance, general management and legal industries.
