Nearly 50% of UK jobseekers 'applying via internet'

Nearly 50% of UK jobseekers 'applying via internet' New research has revealed that almost half of UK jobseekers turn to the internet when applying for vacancies.

A study by management provider Taleo Research found that 43 per cent of respondents used online tools such as applying online or sending a CV via email to apply for their latest job.

These 'internet identifiers' account for 43 per cent of respondents, with 38 per cent being traditional job seekers who rely on head hunters, recruitment agencies and personal contacts, and 19 per cent preferring to actively apply by post.

Commenting on the findings, senior vice president Neil Hudspith said: "The prevalence of online recruitment shows that there is now little competitive edge in merely having a career section on your website.

"Companies need a fast, candidate-friendly online hiring process to gain an advantage over competitors. Clearly, this is still an area of improvement for many companies."
