Non-monetary perks 'improve retention'

Non-monetary perks 'improve retention' Businesses that offer their staff non-pecuniary rewards will find that they have a better chance of retaining their staff. It has been claimed.

A new study by Gfk NOP revealed that staff are responsive to good development opportunities, with some 90 per cent saying it was effective.

Furthermore, 87 per cent said they would find a non-monetary prize satisfactory, with 74 per cent citing being thanked as important.

Commenting on the issue, Sukhi Ghatore, associate director in GfK NOP’s business division, said: "It's well documented that non-monetary reward is an important motivator for staff, but the affect on employee retention of failing to embrace such recognition is quite startling.

"UK employers are risking losing significant numbers of staff, in many cases because they’re not even taking the time to do something as simple as saying a formal thank you."

Gfk NOP is a market research organisation with experts in both UK and international research.
