Graduates in the north-east of the UK can take comfort from the fact that employment levels have reached a record high in the region. According to the latest figures, the number of people who are working has risen by 49,000 in the last year with 72 per cent of the working population now earning money. The data was released by the Office for National Statistics and showed that only Scotland had a higher quarterly rise. Graduates from the region who are considering jobs in banking and finance sales or even IT sales look set for success, particularly if they look for potential employers online. Mike Parker, spokesman for the north-east chamber of commerce, said: "It is time to put to bed once and for all any suggestion that the north-east is not a prosperous region. "Practically every round of statistics over the last year has shown what a phenomenal growth story is occurring. "We should all be tremendously proud and celebrate the fact that industry is leading this resurgence." A separate report said this week that the area is developing at an encouraging rate, with house prices in the south increasing by 132 per cent in four years.
