Thousands of jobs have been created in the north-west of England due to foreign direct investment, new figures indicate. Data from UK Trade and Investment reveals that more than 130 investment projects in the region resulted in the creation of more than 7,500 jobs, which may be good news to graduates seeking sales jobs in the area. These findings make the north-west the leader in foreign direct investment of any region in the UK and second only to London in new job creation, the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) said. In addition, the NWDA pointed out that the figures reflect an increase of 700 jobs from the number which were created last year. Steven Broomhead, NWDA chief executive, said that the results "are to be commended" because they show the region's commitment to job and economic growth. Overall, 36,000 jobs were shown to be created in Britain from foreign direct investment during 2006-07, with the US and India as the prime investors.
