Salaries across the UK have risen by 25 per cent, according to recently released employment figures. The Robert Walters Annual Global Salary Survey has discovered that year-on-year wages have improved by a quarter as the UK's economy continues to grow in strength. Employees working in the north west were given extra special news, with the Robert Walters research team claiming that the area was benefiting from "continued strength in the economy", with the banking and finance sectors given special mention. The report states: "The region [north west] continued to thrive in 2006 with an increased level of activity across all areas within the financial services sector. "This was primarily driven by the continued strength in the economy, despite pessimistic projections of a slowdown which has so far failed to materialise." Moreover, the Robert Walters Annual Global Salary Survey has stated that employers and potential recruits have seen their expectations increase during 2006. It claims that employers are now looking for candidates with specialist skill sets, such as graduates, with employees wanting bosses that offer good employment packages in recognition of their "worth in the workplace".
