Students who take on part-time work during their studies can increase their chances of securing a graduate job, it has been claimed. The National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES) notes that part-time positions enable people to develop skills which they might not otherwise acquire. Alison Clark, director of NASES, said: "Students have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, the opportunity to develop their professional skills and to enhance their future employability in anticipation of graduating." She added that there is an array of options open to those looking for part-time work which can be instrumental in securing work post-university. According to recent research by the Association of Graduate Recruiters, the number of graduate positions on offer increased by 11.7 per cent this year when compared to 2007. Financial services firms, such as those involved in accountancy and banking, continued to offer a high proportion of graduate jobs, representing a third of all vacancies.
