New research has revealed that around 40 per cent of successful financial PR applicants came from backgrounds outside of PR. The Show you the Money report from PR recruitment specialists The Works discovered that many companies are looking for broader skills in order to meet their recruitment needs. With a strong demand for good people and relevant sector experience, strong applicants were recruited quickly and for higher rates than in previous years, which could be of interest to recent graduates. Commenting on the trend, Sarah Leembruggen, managing partner at The Works said: "Throughout 2007 there has been a significant rise in the number of people entering financial PR from alternative careers, in fact we've seen a significant ten per cent increase from 2006 figures." She added that people such as bankers, analysts, accountants, lawyers and journalists have all switched to PR, attracted by shorter hours and larger salaries.
