Graduates may be interested to learn that the financial and professional services sector has seen the biggest growth in north-west employment in the past ten years. The Changing Professions in the North West of England report by the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) has shown that 428,800 were employed in the industry in 2007, an increase form 315,200 in 1997. The increase represents around 23 per cent of overall growth in the area's top ten employment growth sectors, with education and life sciences featuring second and third respectively. The sector's presence in the north-west is set to increase further, with nearly a thirds of people expected to be working in related professions by 2020, which is more good news for graduates aspiring to the industry. Additionally, the report illustrates how MMU is supporting growth in the north-west's emerging sectors through its post-graduate and professional development courses, as well as business partnerships and consultancy.
