Graduate recruiters place more value on soft skills such as team working and good communications than academic qualifications, according to new research. Recent research conducted by GRADdirect indicated that 68 per cent placed high value on the ability to grasp complex information, while 62 per cent rated communication and teamwork capabilities as high priority personal attributes. Furthermore, some 42 per cent felt being able to appreciate an alternative point of view was vital, compared to just 27 per cent who felt academic qualifications were of primary importance. Commenting on the findings, Nick Griffin, head of graduate services at GRADdirect, said: "The graduate recruitment process is a huge undertaking and investment for any organisation. "With an estimated 185,000 people set to leave college and university this summer, recruiters are faced with the challenge to hire the best graduates who will also have the potential to be future business leaders."
