Retail recruitment is likely to continue in Central London over the Christmas period despite a dip in sales, it has been claimed. Figures from the British Retail Consortium recently indicated that retail sales in the area had slipped by 1.8 per cent since 2007, but retailers do not see this as a troubling prospect. Moira Benigson, managing partner at Moira Benigson Executive Search, told Recruiter that the opening of Westfield – a brand new shopping centre in the capital – has been a significant factor in employment figures. She pointed out that the scale of such a place may well "balance out London". Commenting on the issue, Kate McCarthy, managing director at McCarthy Recruitment, added: "I think Central London has had a strong year. With the retailers that we work with, Central London has bucked the trend as far as year-on-year sales are concerned. "I can only see this continuing when you compare this with the rest of the UK."
