In news that may be of interest to graduates seeking FMCG sales jobs, the UK retail sector is continuing to perform well, new figures reveal. Data collected for May by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) indicates that retail sales in Britain rose 0.4 per cent during the month. Growth was reported in all sectors except for clothing and footwear, the ONS said. "The largest increases occurred in household goods stores where sales increased by 2.9 per cent following a fall of 3.2 per cent in April and non-store retailing which rose by 2.6 per cent," a spokesperson commented. Additionally, total sales volumes for the first three months of 2007 were 4.4 per cent higher than the same period last year, according to the statistics. The average weekly value of sales was reported at £4.9 billion. In related employment news, businesses were recently encouraged by a recruitment expert to hire more recent graduates at the annual Confederation of British Industry Business Summit.
