The retail sector is still looking to recruit top candidates, despite a sales slump on the high street, it has been claimed. Kate McCarthy, managing director at McCarthy Recruitment, told Recruiter that businesses will still need an appropriate number of people to ensure a high level of customer service, reports Recruiter. "Going into Christmas, they are going to try and prepare themselves in order to provide the best customer service and that means having the right headcount in the business to maximise sales," she said. "Some retailers are doing better than others. Overall, retail is down but there are some success stories out there." Recent figures from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) saw 27 per cent of retailers report lower sales levels than in October 2007. However, Ms McCarthy added that this is unlikely to affect vacancies, noting that a high proportion of companies are still "recruiting to get the best talent into the business."
