A number of businesses on the Shetland Isles are being offered cash incentives to recruit graduates, it has been reported. The Highlands and Islands Enterprise has allocated £76,500 for the initiative, which was launched in 1995. Five companies have already received £37,500 between them, which will be used to boost their graduate recruitment programmes. Web design company NB Communication was one of the first to receive a grant and has now taken on 22-year-old John Pottinger, who gained an IT degree at Dundee's Abertay University. "It was very important for me to come back to Shetland. I came back last summer and have been keeping my eye open for jobs," said John. "This is the only one that ticked all the boxes for me," he added. His employer David Nicol claimed that the graduate recruitment scheme is a welcome development and will allow the company to continue its growth.
