The happiness of an organisation's employees is intrinsically tied to that business' success, according to a wellbeing expert. Nic Marks, a speaker at the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development's (CIPD) annual conference, said that wellbeing at work "is becoming increasingly important" and added that firms have realised "the link between happy, healthy staff and [the business'] long-term success". "If jobs aren't challenging or interesting enough, this will be reflected in lack of commitment, underperformance and satisfaction," he explained. "By measuring and focusing on wellbeing at work, we can create good jobs - and good jobs not only benefit employees, but also employers." Additionally, staff who are happy in their jobs perform better, take less sick leave and are less likely to quit, research from the CIPD indicates. Other topics discussed at the CIPD conference include talent management, leadership and employment law.
