Stars reveal their changing career paths

Everyone has had dreams of what they wanted to do when they were older but it often works out that as time goes on your career plans change.

Those who once thought about being a vet, for example, can end up in recruitment or a budding fireman can take up a career in telecommunications.

And it seems that celebrities too, have often changed their plans with many never intending to be famous or earn lots of cash.

As part of a new competition, the UK's top politicians and stars are being invited to share their job choices from when they were younger and let people know when and why their plans changed.

Those who have so far responded to the survey include comic Ricky Gervais who originally wanted to be a scientist and ex-EastEnder Tamzin Outhwaite, who had high hopes of becoming a dancer or a stewardess.

Politicians too never expected to spend most of their careers battling it out in the House of Commons with Caroline Flint, minister for public health, wanting to be a ballerina and Bill Rammell, minister for lifelong learning, dreaming of being an astronaut.
