Better training would help to close the widening skills gap in the IT sector, an expert has claimed. A study conducted by The IT Job Board indicated that 55.5 per cent of respondents believe a lack of professionals is responsible for such a gap, while 55 per cent cited rapid developments within the industry. Furthermore, some 77 per cent believe better training in the workplace would be instrumental in closing the gap. Alex Farrell, managing director of The IT Job Board, commented: "The IT sector is a rapidly evolving one, and it is down to employers to invest in their staff, both via systems and training, to ensure they stay up-to-speed with the changes." She added that the UK needs to attract "high-quality staff" both nationally and internationally if it is to remain competitive. A recent study conducted by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation revealed that the IT and telecoms sectors are optimistic about recruitment despite the challenging jobs market.
