Work-life balance important to Brits over Christmas

Britain may have become a national of workaholics, but it seems many businesses are happy to relax a little at this time of year and let their staff enjoy the festive period.

A recent survey by IRS Employment Review found that at least half of all employers plan to suspend normal business between Christmas Eve and January 2nd this year.

This compares to just four out of ten in previous years and demonstrates how employers are becoming much more attuned to the needs of their staff to find a healthy balance between work and spending time with friends and family.

Not everyone will be lucky enough to get the time off, but another UK survey shows that 25 per cent of employees whose companies do not close for Christmas are entitled to take leave during this time.

And it also suggests that the growing popularity of home working and enhanced communications between home and the office will have an impact on people's ability to spend Christmas at home this year.
