A substantial number of UK workers are training to learn new skills in the workplace, in order to expand their employment opportunities, according to a new study. Recent research by AOC found 21 per cent of adults believe they will secure a qualification during the next 12 months, with around a third of these doing so to beat the credit crunch. According to the study, some 3.2 million people are planning a change of career during the next year, which may be of note to graduates considering alternative employment opportunities. David Collins, president of the AOC, said the challenging economic situation would drive people to make "bold decisions about their future". "Quite rightly people will be looking at the qualifications they have got and those they need to get to fulfil their future aspirations," he said. Skills secretary John Denham recently asserted that colleges played a crucial role in the training and re-training of members of the UK workforce.
