The University of York has launched a range of cut-price IT courses to give people the skills they need to get a job in the sector. Concerns have been raised in recent months that the UK is heading towards a chronic skills shortage, with the IT sector highlighted as one of the industries most likely to suffer. But the university's IT academy has received funding from the Learning and Skills Council and the European Social Fund to offer low-cost courses to those hoping to receive additional training that will allow them to approach the IT sector with confidence. Basic program courses designed for those in IT sales, payroll and other similar industries are on offer alongside more complex and technical modules for those looking to become technicians and software developers. All the courses are Microsoft accredited and as such have an industry recognised seal of approval attached to them. This will be incredibly useful for those looking to enter the increasingly competitive IT employment sector. However, the University of York IT academy has noted that places on the courses are strictly limited.
