Accountants and finance staff are absolutely vital to businesses in the wake of the economic climate, an expert has claimed. Lucy Davison, associate director of financial recruitment consultants FSS, noted that such professionals are more important than ever, which could be welcome news for graduates considering a career in the sector. She stated that accountants with strong management accounts experience are currently in strong demand and added that many companies are maintaining their headcount in preparation for an eventual upturn. "Government predictions suggest that when the recovery comes it will arrive quickly, therefore it is important for organisations to have the right skills in place at the right time," she explained. A recent study conducted by FSS indicated that two thirds of employers will keep their permanent hiring of finance professionals at the same level this year, while 15 per cent of respondents said they intend to increase their financial headcount.
