The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has released a new set of guidelines which will help both firms and graduate job hunters to make the most of internships. In a six-point plan launched yesterday (September 23rd), the organisation focused on recruitment, induction, supervision, treatment, payment and feedback as key priorities for employers taking on graduates. Commenting on the move, CIPD skills advisor Tom Richards claimed that the recession has caused many graduate job hunters to settle for internships to help them find full-time employment. He said: "In an increasingly competitive market for jobs, we would say that more internships, if they can be put on, would benefit not just the companies but also the jobseekers themselves." Personnel Today recently reported that supermarket chain the Co-operative is to team up with the National Council for Work Experience in a new graduate internship scheme.
