City 'selecting' from graduate pool Graduates are being more carefully selected for City jobs in the wake of the economic slowdown, it has been claimed.

Numerous leading banking institutions have noted that recruitment strategies have changed in the financial services as companies deal with the challenging climate.

The Financial Times reports that companies are now honing in on the top talent for their vacancies, which underlines the need for ambitious graduates to stand out from the crowd.

Gordon Chesterman, director of Cambridge University Careers Service, noted that "there is now more gathering than hunting among the banks".

The City has recently been focusing on graduates from Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College London, as well as institutions such as London School of Economics, University College London and Warwick University.

David Hurst, managing director of Onrec, recently advised university leavers to ensure they make use of as many keywords as possible on their CVs to maximise their employment opportunities.
