Those looking for graduate finance jobs should make sure they show employers that they are competent for the role, according to big four accountancy firm KPMG. The company only takes online application forms for graduate positions, so once academic criteria has been met the success of the candidate comes down to how well they show they are up to the job in the interviews and assessment centre. Lesley Winterflood, head of recruitment for the UK at KPMG, said: "People have to meet the academic criteria, so if they don't meet the economic criteria then they don't get through to the next round. Once they get through the application it is all competency-based." For those companies that concentrate more on CVs, Ms Winterflood advised graduates to make sure that they are succinct, clear and correct. The chief executive of the Council for Industry and Higher Education Richard Brown recently said in the Independent that there are graduate jobs available, but students will have to stand out from the crowd.
