The University of Sheffield is to introduce a new initiative to help businesses provide graduate jobs for those leaving higher education this summer. In a collaboration between other universities in the area, the institution will provide recently-obtained Higher Education Funding Council for England money to local employers so they can provide short-term work for graduates. According to the Sheffield Telegraph, potential graduate employers have until June 26th to apply for a grant, enough to pay university leavers £300 a week for three months. Steve Fish, director of the University of Sheffield Careers Service, told the newspaper: "This is a great opportunity for 20 local employers to gain from the contributions a graduate could make to their organisation." A recent report by the Work Foundation suggested that the government should invest £5 million to help charities provide jobs for unemployed young people, such as graduates, Third Sector reports.
