Social Networks
Ivan Croxford of BT business has recommended that small
businesses make use of social networks to help increase
sales and promote their business.
In an article for Marketingweek, the general manager for digital
marketing services for BT business says that sales executives at
smaller companies "all too easily" miss the opportunities offered
by social networking. His recommendations suggest that small and
medium businesses could increase sales by incorporating technology
into their tactics, and investing in the new sales training which
will enable their staff to capitalise on these opportunities.
Pointing to research made on his companies BT Tradespace
service, Croxford said that "word of mouth is a powerful medium and
this is a perfect enabler", and encouraged "all businesses...to
think about how they can get the most out of having an online
profile that is much more professional than the usual fan
pages".
"More and more small businesses are boosting their online
presence in an effort to increase their turnover" he said. But
"Getting businesses to use social networking as a B2B marketing
tool is by no means an easy task. They have to be sure they can
easily get the most out of it"
Croxford claims that his companies research shows that companies
can see dramatic improvements in their online presence by combining
active media into their sites. 59% of visitors to websites on BT
Tradespace apparently spent over five minutes on websites with
video media, as opposed to 15% for those without.
By incorporating internet video with social networking tools,
Croxford says that small businesses can extend the "reach of
word-of-mouth online". By using secure transaction services such as
Paypal, small businesses will be able to quickly turn online
communication and marketing into sales of goods and services.
